I use 7Notes to convert handwritten notes on my iPad to text for later use in lectures or whatever. It's usually quite good, but every now and then it generates hilarity. I've taken this most recent example as a sign it's time go to bed.
I promise I didn't teach it that word

Moving on Up
So, the move is complete. In that all our junk is in the new apartment.
Also, we have an ice maker:
Two Roman tubs:
And this is the view from the patio and the bedroom windows:
Tom's parents bought us a new mattress in addition to helping us move in and his sister and brother-in-law and niece helping with the move and passing on a queen bed frame for the guest bedroom.
New mattresses are huge. Our bed was already high. It hits just under my boobs now and I'm 5'6 or 5'7 depending on how scolio'd my spine is on a given day.
We got new driver's licenses. I think all the weight Tom lost from the last time he had a MS license I gained since the last time I had one.

Friday while I was in the bathroom I got another call about teaching. Apparently they needed to know right that minute if I could teach in the spring. So I said "um, yeah." I have a job with virtually no effort on my part to acquire it. This is still blowing my mind.
Yesterday we bought a washer and dryer to be delivered on Wednesday. o.O Single largest expenditure we've ever made. There will be photos. Possibly video.
Today I drove Tom to work and drove home all by myself for the first time since 2008. It went very smoothly. Then I spent the rest of the day waiting for the gas company tech to show up, which still hasn't happened.
And I unpacked exactly nothing. My excuse is that we need bookcases before we can unpack most of the boxes which are full of books.

What the...I don't even...
Thought I'd look at my blog stats because, um, I was bored or maybe hit the wrong button. Anyway, what the hell?
"Bobcat pooping?" Really?
I think I know why, but I don't remember mentioning pooping.

It's Not the Flight Suit, Dude
Image via WikipediaPacking and watching Star Trek. Tomorrow is Yesterday is on at the moment. That's the one when they get flung back to the 1960s and beam an Air Force pilot aboard after the mess up his jet.Anyway, Kirk shows the guy around and eventually says "that flight suit must be uncomfortable, why don't we get you a change of clothes..."
Pretty sure that was a come-on.
Awkward!

ZOMG They Have Tribbles Glued to Their Boobies
If you hadn't already guessed, I did some knitting and watching of Star Trek this evening when I wasn't being creeped out by IKEA catalogs.
The colors are even more garish in the remastered episode. I think I may have gotten sympathetic hives.
Shore Leave is another one of those "really, WTF?" episodes in terms of dialogue and interaction between members of the opposite sex.
Most painfully creepy moment: McCoy telling the yeoman she should try on the princess dress because he'd like to see her in it. While they're both on duty. On a mission.
Also, people must have really damn short attention spans in the 23rd Century. Kirk sees a guy he was at Starfleet Academy with and just takes the time to get in a fistfight with him because, um, the other dude was Irish and kind of a dick.
Then he runs into an old girlfriend and is all googly eyed and mushy while at the same time he's loosing communications with the ship and the rest of the shore party.
Sulu finds a handgun and is all "pow pow pow" (what the hell is the gun version of "pew pew pew"?) Because that is ALWAYS what you want to do when you find a random weapon under a rock for no apparent reason.

Large Quantities of Spray Texture
Today's blog title answers the question posed by the Star Trek episode What Are Little Girls Made Of?
While this episode is probably most notable for a screencap that appears after the break, it was also set in an underground cavern system on an extremely cold planet.
Apparently the set designer must have been heavily invested in the spray texture industry, given that every "natural" surface is coated in the stuff. It's also used in other "ice planet" episodes, of which there seems to be quite a lot, now that I think about it. They may also have been anticipating the Lisa Frank 1 craze of later years as all the surfaces are also pink and purple. Because, um, alien ice is purple? Or is this supposed to be rock surface? If it's ice, then WTF is up with this outfit?
I mean, she is an android, but still

Star Trek is back on Netflix streaming
Oh yeah, the epic red tights are epic. Why the hell did anyone think men in the future would be all about some red tights? Or was Bill Weiss foreseeing the rise of hipsters?
Wow, that is actually worse than the Shat in tights. Impressive.
And I am so not getting any work done.

Little Bodice Ripper on the Prairie?
I have a deep and abiding fondness for the works of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Read them as a child and adored them, then picked them up again a couple years ago as comfort reading and discovered they were still wonderful. As an archaeologist and historian and general nerd, I was also interested in more information about Laura and her family. So, there's this book - Laura: The Life of Laura Ingalls Wilder
by Donald Zochert. I scored it from Paperback Swap. The cover is tripping me out.
I'm assuming that's Laura over there on the left.
What isn't clear is why she has her blouse unbuttoned halfway to her navel. Or why she has short, Brady Bunch hair.
On the right, I'm guessing Almanzo Wilder. I was unaware until now that his family had Neanderthal ancestry of sufficient recentness to give him a really distinctive brow-ridge. Or that he apparently highlighted his hair.
Seriously - WTF?
The author, Zochert, writes in a weird, simplistic kind of folksy way that is sort of like Laura's. I can't decide if this is annoying yet.
I definitely have not hit any bodice ripping yet.
The front cover isn't so bad. They were clearly trying to capitalize on the Little House on the Prairie TV show without getting too far into potential lawsuit territory, which explains the Michael Landon looking dude on the left there.
Then there's the back cover:
Yeah. I have many questions. Then there's the back cover:

Really?
This is based on multiple blog posts I've input. Vaguely tempted to try some of my academic papers. Honestly not sure how to feel about this. Everything I've heard or read about Wallace's work has turned me off, big time.
At least it wasn't Dan Brown.

Yet Again, I'm Glad I No Longer Have Cable
So far as I can tell, this is not a joke. Well, it is a joke, but wasn't intended as such. Ima go rock back and forth in a corner and cry now.
Bonus points for the truly ridiculous descriptions available in the episode guide plus the suggestion that viewers might also enjoy shows about ancient aliens.
Hilariously, I think I was one of many people who received email invitations to apply/audition for a place on the show. I'm fairly certain I read the message, giggled, and deleted it, but I'll have to dig through old archives to be sure, just in case there's some added hilarity.
Another silver lining to my lack of cable access is probably the fact that it will keep me from live-blogging the shows via Twitter and getting sued. :P

Time Travel To-Do List Addition
1. If someone invents a time machine and I go back to ancient Egypt, scribes better watch out. I will be pimp-slapping every last one of those bastards.
2. Claim Europe.
3. Print this out and take a copy to Charles Darwin. For the lulz.
4. Find the Trolololo guy and kill him. With extreme prejudice. Seriously, Soviet Russia, what the hell? Why on Earth didn't they weaponize this guy and his creepy smiley-ness? The fact that he reminds me vividly of someone I went to grad school with doesn't help. Also not helping: Tom and Chip breaking out into the song randomly. Sigh.
