So, the turkey Tom wound up making (because I slept all day) was fantabulous. So was everything that went with it.
Oreo got his little share of turkey and mashed potatoes and cranberry jelly. No gravy for him this year because it had garlic and shallots. I wasn't sure about the stuffing so none of that either. He seemed very pleased nonetheless.
I'm trying to reset my sleep schedule again. Despite getting up at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, I couldn't sleep for more than an hour or two without being wide awake again until 5 AM Thursday. Sigh. If this doesn't settle by Tuesday, I may have to reschedule cognitive testing yet again, as I'm pretty sure the results will be skewed a bit if I'm about to pass out or throw up from sleep deprivation. "Regular" tired = fine for testing. Sleep deprivation = not so fine. Trying really hard to stave off that "dementia" diagnosis as long as possible. Or at least until we have several more small dogs and I acquire a wardrobe of muumuus so I can be the crazy dog lady.
After dinner last night we watched The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, which is one of my favorites and I played with polymer clay. Tonight I think there may be some Doctor Who watching and knitting on my baby nephew's Xmas present.
My dislike of the acetazolamide is increasing. I've mostly gotten used to the excessive peeing and the resultant need to consume large quantities of water. Unfortunately, the headaches that come within a few hours are not so fun and don't seem to be going away as my body gets used to the med. Neither is the intestinal disturbance. And I don't think it's helping much on the involuntary movement front - at least not enough to make it worth it as far as I'm concerned. Definitely not helping enough for me to up the dose to twice daily.
On top of that, I can't take my preferred headache/significant joint pain remedy, Excedrin (or the generic equivalent) because it has asprin (a salicylate) in it, which is contraindicated.
I also can't take Pepto for my stomach because it has salicylate because ALL salicylates are contraindicated. This blows goats. I'm trying acetaminophen (Tylenol) at the moment because ibuprofen will irritate my stomach and intestines even more. It's working a bit better than it used to, but not nearly as well as it would mixed with caffeine and asprin. Dammit.
So, my head hurts, I have to pee a lot, and poot a lot, and poop a lot, and the rest of me hurts too, BUT I have polymer clay, yarn, movies, and books, plus Tom and Oreo to keep me company, so I guess I'll survive and even be fairly happy. Grumbly, but happy.

This Evening's Dinner
Star Trek Eggo Waffles. Apparently there was a run on frozen waffles at the store and this was all Tom could find. Weird, but not disgusting.
I got about 11 hours sleep today (starting at 6 am) and want more. Crap.
Last night was spent attempting to cast on for some fingerless gloves. I think I did it about 8 times trying to find the proper permutation of needle type (bamboo or metal), size, and number of stitches to cast on. These are being knit flat and then seamed up the side because I don't have double points nor no I have multiple sets of circular needles in the same size or a super long cord for my interchangeable circs, so knitting in the round isn't really happening.
I watched the old 1940s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier and was deeply disappointed to see that they decided not to use period costumes. Then I watched the 1990s adaptation of Little Women which inevitably makes me cry.

Long Weekend
So a good friend of ours from college, Joe, came to visit us this weekend - thus my failure to blog regularly.
It was very good to see him again and while I may be spending this week recovering from the visit because I still can't bring myself to slow down when I should, we had a blast.
He got in late Thursday, so we wound up having a late bite to eat at the White Palace which was not nearly as scary as I thought it had the potential to be.
The next day we walked around Hyde Park and showed him the museum and that night had a party for which I had made marinara sauce especially for Joe. It was pretty fun!
Saturday, Joe decided he wanted to try Kuma's Corner. Despite the 45 minute wait for a table (because the place was super popular), it was AWESOME. They have ridiculously huge, delicious burgers and the best fried calamari I think I've ever had. Fabulous. We would never have discovered this place without Joe, so extra awesome. Though I don't really drink anymore, they also have an enormous selection of beers and what appeared to be interesting possibilities for cocktails along with whisky on tap. They also had tasty, tasty root beer. The people watching is pretty entertaining too - hipsters, frat boys, bikers, average people, all mixed in.
After that we decided to check out the Cook County Fair at the Garfield Park Conservatory. The "fair" was more of a way to let urban kids see farm animals and play (not that we expected much more) but the conservatory was spectacular and definitely on our list for return visits in the dead of winter. Very fun.
After that we drove down the Mag Mile to let Joe see the touristy part of the Loop. I haven't been down there in a few months and there are now pedi-cabs. I didn't see anyone actually using one, but the idea is amusing.
Then we decided a trip to a used bookstore was in order and went to check out Myopic Books, which had been recommended by some other friends. Very cool. I scored some more sci-fi/fantasy to read. I will be making a return trip to off-load a bunch of my no longer wanted paperbacks.
So, all in all, a very good visit. We kicked Joe's ass out today at the airport and he's made it home. I think Oreo misses him - they seemed to get along very well. :) Yay, visiting!

Awesome!
I found this just a while ago and now I desperately want to try it. Sorry Jewish, Muslim, and vegetarian friends, but how can I resist pork plus what essentially amounts to a craft project? I think the addition of a few spices to the ground pork would be important, and I probably wouldn't bother with the hotdog the guy had as the internal part. Check the link for more details:

Good Day
I spent most of the day out visiting today to distract myself from tomorrow's needle-tastic/electrocution fun. It was really good to catch up with some people I haven't seen lately and even fun to see people that I see all the time (shout-out to the hubby on that one). It did wear me out a bit though. The dreadful gray weather isn't helping either - it seems to make my vision/vertigo stuff worse. Bleh. Anyway, a good day, though no crafting done.
Now we're waiting for rosemary-dijon crusted pork chops and baked potatoes to get finished up and we got a frozen cherry pie to bake (I've had a weird craving for it lately). And I scored some Ben and Jerry's Cinnamon Buns ice-cream to try. And some Cocoa Pebbles. If I wind up feeling all crappy the next few days, at least I will have had an awesome dinner tonight and I have fun stuff to snack on if I feel like it. Yay!
I also need to get cracking on Mom's present for Mother's Day. And when that's done, I need to work on a gift for a friend who is, sadly, probably going away. And I have wedding presents to work on too.
